Choosing Between Cupra Born V1 and V2 for a Second Car

I’m trying to decide between the V1 and V2 versions of the Cupra Born and could really use some advice! This would be a low-mileage second car for us (mostly for transporting the dog), alongside our Tesla Model 3.

Initially, I was leaning toward the V2 with the 58kWh battery and E-boost, because, let’s be honest, who doesn’t love the idea of a turbo boost button? But after a test drive and seeing both the V1 and V2 in person, I started questioning whether I actually need all the extras that come with the V2.

For example, the 18" cyclone wheels actually looked better to me in person than online—simple, clean, and maybe even quieter. The head-up display was surprisingly clear, even with my bifocals, though it gave me a bit of a headache. My wife’s not a fan and asked if it could be turned off, so it’s not a huge selling point for us.

I do like heated seats, especially since we enjoy them in the Tesla, but we’ve never had them on a second car, so it’s not a necessity. Tinted rear windows are also something I’m not really into; I don’t love the half-and-half look, and since we don’t have kids, it seems less essential.

Then there are the heated washer nozzles, those are tempting, I’ll admit! Always wanted them, but still not sure if they’re worth choosing the V2 over the V1.

Price-wise, the V2 only saves about £900 over three years, but the V1 might just be simpler overall. Am I missing something, though? And as for color, I originally thought I’d go with Aurora Blue, but after seeing it in person, Quasar Grey has really grown on me.

Any thoughts from other Born owners? Is there something about the V2 that makes it a must-have?

If you’re mainly using it as a second car and for shorter trips, the V1 sounds like it could be a solid, simple choice. It sounds like the extras on the V2 are tempting, but maybe not essential for your use. The 18" cyclone wheels on the V1 are a great pick for a quieter ride, especially if road noise is a concern. Heated washer nozzles are a nice luxury, but if you’re okay without them in your Tesla, you might not miss them here either. The Quasar Grey also sounds like a smart choice, it’s such a classy, understated color. If it were me, I’d go with the V1 for simplicity and value!

Quasar Grey definitely gives the ID3 a sleek, modern look, no doubt about it! But on the Born, I think it loses some of its charm, making the car feel a bit less exciting. Personally, I’m all about the vibrant options like White or Silver. They add that pop of color and personality that makes the car feel more alive. whereas the flat grey just feels a little too muted for my taste.

You're probably good with a regular V1. It'll likely have the tech pack.

The HUD is nice, but you don't need to look far down to see the screen.

Choosing between the V1 and V2 Born is hard, especially for a second car. You've clearly thought about it a lot, which is good. E-boost is nice, but will you use it much with the dog? Probably not worth it if you don't care about the other V2 stuff. It's cool you like the V1 wheels – sometimes the "upgrades" aren't better. Quieter wheels are always good. The HUD is out since it gives you a headache, and heated seats aren't a must-have for a second car. Same with the tinted windows. Heated washers are tempting, but expensive. £900 over three years is a lot. £900 isn't a huge price difference, but it's still money you could use elsewhere. Quasar Grey is a great color! Since you like some V1 features better and don't need the V2 extras, the V1 seems like the best choice. Unless there's something else about the V2 you want, save the money and get the V1 in Quasar Grey. Think about the range difference between the batteries – the smaller one might be okay for you. Also, do they charge at different speeds? Is there anything else about the V2 you're even a little interested in? You're doing great – let us know what you pick!
